First
National Battery was established in 1931 and is the
leading battery manufacturer in South Africa. Batteries produced
include automotive starter (SLI), mining traction, DIN and BS
materials handling batteries, miners caplamps, standby, marine,
leisure (boats-caravans) and for solar/rural power storage.
Annually
more than 2.2 million batteries are produced and reach consumers in South
Africa through strategically located distributors and the extremely successful Battery
Centre franchise and exported to more than 30 countries
worldwide. All products comply with international performance standards
and are manufactured in accordance with ISO9001:2000, VDA6.3 and ISO/TS
16949:2002 quality systems.
Old
lead acid batteries are recycled through it’s own battery breaker
and smelter which comply with the most stringent environmental controls
to achieve ISO14001 listing. This process ensures lead and polypropylene
are reused in the manufacture of high quality lead alloys and plastic
components, as well as a cleaner environment.
Batteries
produced by First National Battery are the first choice
amongst South African Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM). DaimlerChrysler – Mercedes
Benz – Toyota, Nissan, BMW and MAN.
Industrial
batteries are supplied to materials handling forktruck OEM’s BT,
Clarke, Crown, Daewoo, Jungheinrich, Komatsu, Linde, TCM, Toyota and
Yale. Most major gold, coal and platinum mines use locomotive traction
and mine lighting batteries produced by the company, as do local power
generation utilities, railways and telecommunications companies. They
rely on standby batteries – including Planté – produced
by the company. |
